quarantine life : Jamie

OH hello and happy Friday! (What is a Friday?!)- we will get into that later.

Today’s blog is a little glimpse into what my quarantine life (or safe at home life.) has been like for me. To start, I have been safe at home in Ottawa since March 16th or so, which I’m sure is very similar for you if you are reading this and from Ottawa or Ontario. I am extremely lucky and privileged to be able to live safely at home with my Husband with a roof over our heads and food in our fridge. I just want to show you guys a few little moments of what the past 4 months have looked like for me while trying to keep it as real as possible. Hopefully, this will be entertaining, inspiring, or relatable for you too.

Our kitten thinks we are losers…

We got Burger King in early March of this year and so almost his entire existence with us has been quarantine life so he definitely thinks it’s normal for us to be home 24/7, receive constant pets, and that we are obsessed with the white rectangle box in our kitchen & I mean he’s not wrong, but he may be a little shocked when we start to leave the house more frequently…

So let’s start with some highlights shall we?

I am very thankful for the time I been able to spend with my family, at home and the times we can get out (safely.) together. Some good times have been exploring NCC and local Ottawa trails, we have been to SO may these past 4 months and it’s always such a wonderful little adventure or evening. We both are city folk so when we see all this nature and animals it is just so refreshing. When we saw a deer at Shelia Mckee trail the other week we freaked out. :D
Other great moments have been picnics, including a camping picnic in our living room, more time for my indoor plants and trying propagation on several plants and catching up on my Goodreads reading goals and of course lots of movie marathons and random naps.

Not pictured: Not showering for multiple days, doing the dishes, and laundry constantly? The one evening walk where I thought I was being followed by a raccoon, fighting with David over the dumbest things (Because this has been the ultimate relationship test am I right?) and starting movies at 11 pm because what even is a ‘bedtime’ these days.
I wish I had a photo of this: That one evening where I dared David to do the cinnamon challenge and he actually did it. IF ONLY I HAD VIDEO.

At the beginning of this year, I made it one of my 2020 goals to get a new hobby because I feel like I don’t have any? aha SO during this COVID-19 time I went off! Here’s a little summary of hobbies I tried:
(I’m not trying to show off because only one… possible two of these actually stuck! (Fingers crossed.)

  • yoga (I did a month challenge in April but haven’t really done any since.)

  • painting (Plant pots and rocks, don’t ask…)

  • making bath bombs

  • macrame

  • making scrunchies

  • making earrings

  • embroidery

  • bleach dying clothes (I don’t think this is so much a hobby but more of a fun activity which I highly recommend.)

  • gardening

Macrame and especially gardening have really stuck! Gardening has been so much work, distraction, and a lot of learning and of course super fun and rewarding. Like, I get it, fellow gardeners, I GET IT now.
I live in a small downtown apartment with no balcony and so having this small little area in our communal front lawn has been SO good for my brain and my mental health. Getting outside every day to care, prune, water, and chase away squirrels have been a needed little moment for me. It started in April because I bought some tomatoes seeds from the dollar store and I have been growing them ever since. They started off on my window sill and I honestly didn’t have much hope for them and now they are two thriving plants in my garden?!
(I’m such a proud plant mother- just ask David I make him stare at them every time we leave the house.)

& to end this blog post I thought I would say a couple of mushy things about my partner David. These past few months have been an emotional roller coaster for us both but I’m so happy to be safe at home with you. Even though there has been an elevation of dumb fights at the end of the day we get through it together. Thank you for the endless support, patience, and love and for still making me breakfast most days. <3
