My Engagement Story: Erin

One question we ask our couples when we first meet them is how they got engaged. We often get very entertaining stories that truly represent that couple.

SO we thought it would be awesome to share how we got engaged!

Oh man, where to begin.  This is a pretty unconventional engagement story. Very anti-climatic and extremely… US

We will go for a little back story here. William and I are NOT super romantic. Don’t get me wrong, we do cute things for each other but we were never ones for the grand gestures. We are both very easy going and knew that we wanted to be together.

We’ve been together since we were 17, and friends since we were 13. Don’t do the math, we’ve been together a LONG time.

After dating for 4 years, we pretty much knew where things were heading.  And had many many conversations about getting married and our future.

In early August of 2013, we were heading up to Northern Ontario to celebrate my brother's wedding. Before we left for the trip we were chatting about marriage.. naturally. So the idea of getting engaged was fresh in our minds.

The whole weekend we spent away with my family for my brothers wedding was so incredibly fun and so full of love.

Now here where things get interesting… at the wedding reception, Will… a good chunk of drinks in, feeling those wedding feels, thought it was the ideal moment to *respectfully* ask my Dad for his blessing. Will knew exactly what my dad would say, but also knowing how close my dad and I are, he had to do it anyway.

Of course my Dads reply went a little something like this “You don’t need to ask me”

During that conversation…I can’t tell you exactly who, cause to this day we don’t know, but ONE of my family members overheard this conversation… and proceeded to tell everyone that we were engaged. Which, spread throughout the party like wildfire.

Meanwhile, I am dancing away, when people start coming up to me, congratulating me on my engagement.

It took me a while to find William across the venue and to figure out what the hell happened. But we just kinda rolled with it the rest of the night.

The next morning, we woke up and I remember so clearly looking at Will and asking.. “so we’re getting married?” and he said “yup”.. “cool”.

AND.. WELL… THE REST IS HISTORY!

Disclaimer; cause I know some people would be appalled that we “got engaged” at a Wedding, but it wasn’t nearly as exciting as my brother getting SO sick on his wedding night or my other sister in law accidentally locking her self in a bedroom and us having to break down the door haha.

Hello Lovely
